President's Message

by Dave Beatty
The summer slowdown is here and it is the perfect time to take a minute and
look at our operations with an eye to the
future. Which pieces of equipment are
nearing the end of their useful life? If we
don’t replace them in the near future they may cause problems by breaking down during our busiest time and causing unhappy customers and employees. Not to mention the unexpected repair bills we
sure don’t want to see.
Also we need to think about our plants and how they could benefit from all the new technology
available to us. What would we buy first, and how long would it take to pay for itself? These are important steps that we need to take every so often. Once we have an idea what our needs and
wants are then we need to figure out which brand of equipment and model will best serve us for the future.
The upcoming Atlantic City convention is my favorite place to shop and see all the best equipment at one time. It also is a great place to take advantage of some of the special pricing and
friendly competition available there. Several times I have saved more than the cost of the trip. I also got to look at all the major competitor’s new stuff and understand how they can make me
a better cleaner.
The convention always has some seminars and speakers that help me find a nugget of gold which will help me to be more profitable in the future. That nugget of gold is always there, it just takes some investigating and asking a few questions to uncover it sometimes. Also, the convention is a great place to talk to other cleaners and people in the industry about what they are doing and how it is working for them. Bring any problems you may be having and let others give you their perspective on some possible steps towards solving them. Take advantage of all the industry experience present at the show!
Another part of success is taking some time to relax and “smell the roses” and Atlantic City has some really good restaurants, a few “lucky casinos” and the beach and ocean for some much-needed fun.
Also, don’t forget to come to PDCA’s Member Appreciation Party Saturday after the convention closes for the day. This year it will be held right at the convention center to make it easier for you to attend, and give us some much-needed extra room. There will be an open bar, good food and lots of good fellowship to go around.
Hope to see you there!
